1. Get pre-qualified by a reputable
lender. If your Agent won't recognize it, walk.
2. Counselor vs. Salesperson - As first time buyer you need more
information about the process than housing choices
3. Membership - Must belong to a Professionally Recognized Organization
(REALTOR, MLS, Local Real Estate Board)
4. Must have Inventory of varied types - Not all should be vacant
and newly renovated or owned by one seller. It's all about CHOICE.
5. Use your computer - BYOB. It's a great tool and resource.
6. Full Time vs. Part Time. Would you go to a part time doctor?
7. It's ALL about Me - the Me is You. It should be about finding
what YOU want not what the agent shows you or tells you
8. Communication and Access - Does your agent respond to your
inquiries in a timely manner. It's OK to deal with staff and assistants
for certain things.
9. Work with Many, Hire None. Agency - Who does the agent work
for? You or the Seller.
10. Stay away from the One Stop Shops - In theory it makes sense
however locally it is abused.
